I'm pleased to see a good variety of good sounding 5-channel amplifiers available. These small footprint designs offer greater flexibility, more wattage for the buck and save you $$ on installation- not to mention you only need to purchase one amp.

The latest addition comes from JL Audio, one of the leaders in small amplifier design and performance. The company already is enjoying success with it’s high-end HD series 900/5 amplifier, and now introduces the XD700/5 which compliments the HD model within its XD lineup of small efficient car amps.

The JL Audio XD700/5 Multi-channel Amplifier

One look at the XD700/5 makes you think there might not be enough in the tank, but don’t let this small chassis fool you. This amp brings some real good power within its 10 inch by 7 inch footprint! The XD700/5 provides clean output of 75 Watts x 4 and 180 Watts x1 at 4 ohms, with comparable ratings of 100 Watts x 4 and 300 Watts x 1 at 2 ohms. Of course, you have fully adjustable independent electronic crossovers built-in and data port for the HD-RLC remote bass control knob.

The XD700/5 uses the company’s “NexD” technology, which provides high efficiency and stable performance thanks to state-of-the-art switching technology. This amplifier provides stable power and great sound quality at a very reasonable price along with JL Audio’s reputation for building tough car amplifiers. If you’re looking to build a good sounding small to medium car audio system, you ought to give this amp some serious consideration.
